Los Agustinos en Amazonía peruana. Pastoral fluvial vs. pastoral educativa

Abstract

At the beginning of the twentieth century the Augustinians arrived to the east of Peru with the aim for carrying out a revitalization of the missions. With the passage of time, they had to change what the Vatican had mandated to them -a fluvial pastoral- towards an educational pastoral at the city of Iquitos, Peru. That is, they opted to evangelize the rubber chiefs.

Los Agustinos arriban a principios del siglo XX al oriente del Perú con el objetivo de llevar a cabo una revitalización de las misiones. Con el correr del tiempo tuvieron que “girar” lo mandatado por el Vaticano, hacia una pastoral educativa en el seno de la ciudad de Iquitos, Perú, y no una fluvial como previamente estaba previsto. Es decir, optaron por evangelizar a los patrones caucheros.
